After serving as Captain of the Jennings School basketball and baseball teams, Gerald "Gerry" Greger earned a varsity sweater at Bristol High playing football, basketball and baseball. His 1954 team was the CCIL champion. He played two years of Bristol American Legion ball and for the Hubeny Plumbers, the 1954 champions of the Farmington Valley League.

He went on to play freshman soccer at UConn, and four years of college baseball, split between the UConn campuses in Storrs and Hartford. He led the team his first two seasons at Hartford in batting average, homers and RBI's. In the U.S. Army, he played both football and baseball, the latter for the 1961 European National Champions. He retired from the Army as a full colonel.

Returning home, he played 20 years of Bristol Slo-Pitch Softball and Boys Club Senior Men's Basketball. He became head coach of the Bristol Central Rams Golf Team in 2005
