A graduate of Memorial Boulevard School where he played basketball and baseball, Karl Hall starred as a running back for the first Bristol Central team to qualify for the CIAC State playoffs in 1979. As a senior, he led the city, conference, state, and all of New England in points scored (170), rushing yards (1,871) and touchdowns (28). He tied the state record for most touchdowns in a game with seven against Pulaski, a record that stood for 20 years.

As a track athlete, he was undefeated in dual meets at 100, 200, and 400 yards as a senior and Class L State Champion in the 200 yards and second in the 100 in 1980. He holds the school record of 9.8 seconds for 100 yards. He was all conference and all state in track and football at BCHS.

He went on to a great college career at the University of Pennsylvania, where he was All-Ivy and earned eight varsity letters in track and was second team All -Ivy in football, starting for three years and earning 3 varsity letters . He is one of the top ten receivers in UPenn football history.
