Calling her an inspiration to the entire BCHS community, Dr. Martin Semmel, principal, presented the 2008 Distinguished Alumni Award to Lisa P. Roy, M.D., at the Power Breakfast for selected gifted and academically talented students on Tuesday, November 13, 2007. A member of the BCHS Class of 1991, Dr. Roy graduated with honors from Georgetown University, (B.A., Psychology, 1995), and from the Yale School of Medicine (M.D., 2002). Her thesis at Yale studied the effects of "Reach Out and Read," an early intervention reading program for young children of impoverished families in New Haven, CT. Dr. Roy is a pediatrician on staff at Children's Hospital Boston and a teaching fellow at the Harvard School of Medicine.
Dr. Roy's many accomplishments in academics, activities and service to Central were recalled by her former teacher, Dorothy Raviele of the World Language department. Dr. Roy was Bristol Central's very first McMaster Scholar and recipient of a $20,000 college grant.
