Ed Swicklas, born in Southington and raised in Bristol, played football, basketball and baseball at Bristol Central, graduating in 1973. He was all-conference in football and basketball and honorable mention all-state in basketball.

He played football at Southern Connecticut State College where he set offensive records in six categories. He was named the starting quarterback on the All-Eastern College Athletic Conference Football Team and was honored by the New Haven Gridiron Club as small college Player of the Year in 1976 and was the top SCSC offensive player that same year.

He played softball for Crown Oil in the 35 and Over league for many years, including the circuit champions between 1992-2002, and state champions in 1996. He coached football at Foran, Bristol Central and Bristol Eastern high schools and served as Superintendent of the Bristol Parks and Recreation for many years.
