Academic Quiz Bowl - BCHS Edition
BCHS is planning an Academic Quiz Bowl in the spring. Teams will be comprised of the top performers from each class on a general knowledge quiz that draws its content from all aspects of the high school curriculum, current events, and pop culture. Teams will compete in a Final Quiz Bowl at the end of May. Cash prizes will be awarded to the members of the winning team.

Art Club
The Art Club provides students with a creative outlet for developing their art and improving their techniques in a variety of media. The Art Club will be seeking to branch out with projects and grow in the school community.
Membership: Open to all students interested in creating art and collaborating around art topics.

Chess Club
The BCHS Chess Club meets most Fridays after school in Room 202, from November through April. Anyone interested in learning the game or playing chess on any level is welcome.

Excel Club
The Excel Club is sponsored by the Bristol Exchange Club and is for high school students dedicated to improving their schools, communities, and country through volunteerism. Excel Club student members learn and grow through community service projects, fundraising for charity, and working toward a common goal.

Central Stage
Central Stage (formerly Footlights) is an after-school drama group that showcases the performing (acting, singing, dancing) and production (staging, technical) talents of all students in two annual productions.
Membership: All students may audition for shows or sign up for the technical (backstage) crew.

Culture Club
Culture Club welcomes all students interested in exploring and celebrating diverse cultures. Through engaging activities, collaborative projects, and interactive events, we aim to foster inclusivity, awareness, and appreciation for various cultural traditions. Members will have opportunities to prepare presentations, create materials, and participate in school-wide events such as Culture Day and Culture Night. We will also connect with the greater community by sharing cultural insights and experiences.
New members are always welcome to join! Bring your curiosity and enthusiasm to help build a more inclusive, culturally enriched school environment.

Educators Rising
The Educators Rising Club is an organization focused on providing experiences for students interested in the teaching profession. The club meets weekly to plan and practice lessons. Students typically travel to South Side to present lessons to elementary students. Meetings are held on Tuesdays 2:10-3:00 p.m. and interested students are encouraged to attend as often as possible.
Membership: Open to all students interested in teaching and working with younger students.

Elementary Spanish Club
Spanish students and Spanish speakers are welcome to join this club that works with elementary students throughout the school year to learn basic Spanish. We will prepare materials and activities, and take field trips to elementary schools. New members are welcome to join!

Guitar Club
Do you play guitar or want to learn to play guitar? If so, the Bristol Central Guitar Club could be perfect for you. It doesn’t matter what type of music you play or your skill level; the guitar club will be a place to make music with teachers and students. Guitar club will be a place to: jam, learn basic chords and songs, and hang out with friends. Acoustic or electric welcome. See Mr. Platt in room 206 to sign up.

GX Club
The name of this group comes from the sixth-generation home gaming consoles: the G from GameCube, the X from Xbox, and the Station from PlayStation2.
GX Station encourages students to make new friends and fosters camaraderie among diverse groups of students at BCHS. The group meets most Fridays after school in the Library Media Center. Students bring in their games and compete in Guitar Hero, DDR, Super Smash Bros, Naruto, Halo, Singstar, Wii, Xbox 360, GameCube, and PS2.
Membership: All students are welcome.

InterAct Club
The InterAct Club is a junior division of the Rotary International Club. The club exists solely to perform volunteer work at the local, national, and international levels. Meetings are held every Monday from 2:10-2:35 in Room 29
Membership: Open to all students.
Annual events include the Mr. BCHS Pageant, Powder Puff Football, Pennies for Patients for the CT Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, holiday food and gift baskets for families in need, HOPE Charity Fitness Challenge. Throughout the year, there are volunteer opportunities at the Bristol Boys and Girls Club, Indian Rock Nature Center, Barnes Nature Center, the Bristol Public Library, and the Bristol Senior Center.

Math League
The Math Team competes against 26 nearby high schools in problem-solving meets. Practices are weekly. Competitive meets will be held monthly from October through March, either at Bristol Central or at an area school. Students who are involved with another club or team are welcome to participate on a part-time basis.
Membership: Students with an interest in math and strong problem-solving skills.

National Honor Society
The National Honor Society (NHS) is the nation's premier service organization established to recognize outstanding high school students.
Membership: Juniors and seniors who meet the academic criteria (3.7 GPA) are invited to join; all members must demonstrate the four pillars of scholarship, leadership, character, and service.
Meetings & Events: There are a few required meetings per year. NHS students organize and participate in events to serve the school and local community. Members also are required to provide peer tutoring during a free period or after school.

National Business Honor Society
The National Business Honor Society promotes and recognizes academic achievement in business education.
Membership: Juniors and Seniors who have completed three or more business courses or are currently enrolled in a third business course and have met the academic criteria are invited to join. Students must have a 3.5 or better GPA in business courses and a 3.3 or better overall GPA. A $20 one-time fee covers administrative expenses and the cost of National Business Honor Society graduation cords.
There are no regularly scheduled meetings. An induction ceremony takes place in the Spring.

Performing Arts
BCHS is home to several high-caliber curricular musical performing groups. These include Marching Band, Concert Band, Percussion Ensemble, and other small instrumental groups; as well as Concert Choir. There are also extracurricular performing groups students can audition for. These are Jazz Band, Madrigal Singers, BC Flats (Contemporary a Cappella), and Bell City Jazz Choir. To be a part of the extracurricular ensembles, students must be enrolled in the appropriate class.

Poetry Contest
A Poetry Contest is held in February to screen and determine the school’s best poets-on-the-page as well as a live round in March to determine the best performance poets. Poems must be less than 50 lines, in any format, and school-appropriate. The top performance poets go on to the final round of competition in March. Information and entry forms are available from Mrs. Dickau, Room 127, after February 1.

RAMbassadors
RAMbassadors is a senior-to-freshman mentor program geared at easing the transition from middle to high school. RAMbassadors are instrumental in Freshman Orientation, 8th Grade Parent Night, weekly freshmen advisories, and other events.
Membership: Students are invited to apply and interview during the spring of their junior year.

RamPage
Bristol Central’s student news magazine covering events and topics that matter to students is a great place to have thoughts, writing, photography, or cartoons published.
Membership: All students interested in writing or reporting are welcome to weekly meetings every Tuesday. Submissions: Accepted from all BCHS students.
Advisor: Mrs. Katherine Callahan - Room 214
Read and Create Club
This club combines a love of books/reading and creativity! Members get a sneak peek at all new books, and we brainstorm/create reading incentives to share with the school. We split our time between discussing our current reads and using our maker materials (creating bookmarks, Perler bead designs, and more). The Public Library may drop in for special activities too (last year they helped us with 3D printing, making slime, and blackout poetry). The club will begin running during Semester 2 on Tuesdays in the Library.

Student Council
Students are involved in a variety of activities helping the school and the greater Bristol Community.
Membership: Open to all Bristol Central High School students
Meetings: Thursdays, after school, in Room 217
Annual Activities include Red Cross Blood Drives, Button Up Connecticut, the Homecoming Dance, Spirit Week, and the Winter Semi-Formal; several fundraisers are also conducted.
Members also serve on the school Governance Committee which discusses school policy.

Torch (Yearbook)
The yearbook staff is responsible for organizing and completing a yearbook full of pictures and great memories for all students of BCHS. Staff members make creative decisions on the layout and design of the book as well as creating actual pages in the yearbook.
Production meetings are held weekly from September to April in Room 8.
Membership: Open to all students.

Unified Sports
Unified Sports® is a registered program of Special Olympics that combines athletes with and without intellectual disability (or other developmental delays) on sports teams for training and competition. All Unified Sports® teammates are of similar age and teams are placed in competitive divisions based on their skill abilities, and range from developmental to recreational to competitive.
Advisors: Mrs.Rosemary Rustic - Room 7
World Language Honor Societies
The French, Spanish, Italian, and Latin Honor Societies recognize those students who have excelled in the study of those languages.
Membership: Students must be enrolled in Level 3 or higher in Spanish, French, and Latin or Level 2 or higher in Italian and maintain an average of 93 in Academic levels or 90 in Accelerated levels to be eligible. A one-time fee of $18 covers administrative expenses and the cost of graduation tassels. There are no regularly scheduled meetings of these organizations.
