Football, Track, Basketball
A 1963 graduate of Bristol Central, he played football and basketball, and participated in outdoor track & field for the school. Bill earned All-State honors in football while playing for future NFL coach Norm Gerber. He also gained All-CCIL recognition in track, where he set a school record in the discus that stood for over 30 years.
He went on to win All-East honors, as well as being named an honorable mention All-American in football at Syracuse University. As an offensive guard Bill blocked for future NFL Hall of Famers Floyd Little and Larry Csonka. Another noteworthy teammate at Syracuse was future New York Giants coach Tom Coughlin. Bill played in both the Sugar bowl and Gator Bowl with a Syracuse team that received the Lambert Trophy as the No. 1 ranked team in the East. He went on to play for the Toronto Argonauts of the Canadian Football League before leaving to fulfill his military obligations, serving during the Vietnam Era.
